Men's Tennis' Gazic Signs at Dallas BaptistSeptember 03, 2016Evan Gazic of the Pirates' men's tennis team has signed a scholarship to continue his academic and athletic careers at Dallas Baptist University. The New Braunfels High School (Ariz.) product was 11-5 in singles for the Pirates in 2016, playing No. 2 through No. 6.

Koyanagi Signs Scholarship With UC Santa BarbaraAugust 29, 2016Ventura College tennis star Hironori Koyanagi has signed a scholarship to continue his academic and tennis careers at UC Santa Barbara. In his two seasons with the orange and black, Koyanagi made a case as one of, if not the best men's tennis player ever to play at VC. He finished his career with a 46-2 singles record and a 37-4 doubles mark.

Koyanagi Completes Remarkable VC CareerApril 24, 2016It is said that history repeats itself. Unfortunatly for Hironori Koyanagi, it did not repeat itself Sunday. Playing in his second straight CCCAA state singles final at The Ojai Tournament, the VC sophomore and defending state champion was unable to repeat history, falling 7-5, 6-2 to Javier Callejo of Irvine Valley College.

Koyanagi Stays in Hunt For Second Straight TitleApril 23, 2016In a comeback for the ages, defending state champion Hironori Koyanagi advanced to his second straight championship match Saturday at the CCCAA State Championships at The Ojai Tournament. The Pirate sophomore won two matches on the day to move into Sunday's final.

Meanwhile, Koyanagi and doubles teammate Corey Karen also moved on to the Elite Eight of the state championships.

Pirates Solid on Day 1 of The Ojai TournamentApril 21, 2016The Ventura College men's tennis team had solid results on the first day of the CCCAA State Tennis Championships at The Ojai Tournament Thursday. Five of the six Pirates in singles won at least one match with two moving on to the round of 32 while All three doubles teams won at least one match, with two surviving to the round of 32.

Pirates Complete WSC SweepApril 14, 2016After winning their 13th Western State Conference team championship in the past 15 seasons, the Pirates' men's tennis team put the icing on the cake with another domanant performance to close the individual WSC singles and doubles competition Thursday at the VC Tennis Center. Hironori Koyanagi completed a historic back-to-back double-dip, winning his second straight singles crown and teaming up with Corey Karen to defend their WSC doubles title.

Men's Tennis Falls to Cerritos In Second Round of PlayoffsApril 12, 2016The Ventura College men's tennis team took on Cerritos in the second round of the So Cal Regional Playoffs and dropped a 5-2 decision. The Pirates were able to win a pair of doubles matches to take an early advantage, but fell in all four singles matches played to completion. Hironori Koyanagi and Corey Karen won their No. 1 doubles match 9-7.

WSC Tennis Finals Rescheduled for Thursday April 14April 11, 2016Inclement weather forced the postponement of the Western State Conference tennis championships this past weekend. They have been rescheduled for Thursday April 14 at the Ventura College Tennis Center. Play begins at 12:00 pm on Thursday.

Tennis Opens Playoffs With Win Over Orange CoastApril 05, 2016In the first round of the Southern California Regionals the Ventura College men's tennis team picked up a quick 5-0 win over Orange Coast. The Pirates were able to win all three matches in doubles play and then won the first two matches to finish in singles play to pick up the win. Hironori Koyanagi was a winner at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles.

Pirate Tennis Earns No. 3 Seed in SoCal PlayoffsApril 04, 2016The Western State Conference champion Ventura College men's tennis team is headed to the playoffs. The Pirates (14-2) received the No. 3 seed in the CCCAA Southern California Regionals and will host No. 5 Orange Coast College (15-4) on Tuesday April 5 for a 2:00 pm match at the VC Tennis Center.

Koyanagi, Karen Set Up WSC Finals RematchApril 02, 2016Top-seed Corey Karen and No. 3-seed Hironori Koyanagi set up a rematch ofthe 2015 Western State Conference finals by winning two matches each Saturday on day two of the 2016 WSC Championships at the VC Tennis Center. The two sophomores also advanced together to the doubles semifinals along with the team of Guenter Newman and Michael Burr.

Pirate Men Dominate First Day of WSC ChampionshipsApril 01, 2016The Ventura College men's tennis team demonstrated why they won the program's 13th Western State Conference title in the past 15 seasons with a dominating performance on the courts on the first day of the WSC singles and doubles Championships Friday at the VC Tennis Center. VC advanced all four doubles teams to the round of eight, while VC had three of the final eight in singles with another three still alive for a state berth in the back draw.

Ventura College to Host WSC Tennis ChanmpionshipsMarch 31, 2016Ventura College is set to host the 2016 Western State Conference Tennis Championships Friday April 1 and Saturday April 2, finishing up with men's ans women's singles and doubles championships on Friday April 8. Preliminary rounds on April 1 and 2 will be held at the Ventura College Tennis Center and at El Camino Real Park.

Pirate Men's Tennis Sweeps SD Mesa to Cap Regular SeasonMarch 30, 2016In their final regular season match of the year Ventura College men's tennis picked up their seventh shutout of the year with a 9-0 win over San Diego Mesa. Ventura swept all three doubles matches and won two of them in commanding fashion. On the singles side of play the Pirates only dropped two sets along the way. Hironori Koyanagi allowed just one point in singles play.

Tennis Unable to Overcome Tough Test at CerritosMarch 29, 2016Traveling to Cerritos for a difficult non-conference test the Ventura College men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to the Falcons. With the No. 2 seed for So Cal playoffs on the line VC was unable to hand with Cerritos. Hironori Koyangai was the lone Pirate to win at singles play with a straight sets win at No. 2 singles.

Men's Tennis Completes Undefeated SeasonMarch 22, 2016The Ventura College men's tennis wrapped up an undefeated run through the Western State Conference with a 7-2 win over Bakersfield. Leonardo Santos and Victor Ribeiro were winners on the doubles and singles sides of play. Ventura went undefeated in the singles portion of the match.

Men's Tennis Splits Matches at North/South ChallengeMarch 19, 2016Following up their win over the previously undefeated American River, the Ventura College men's tennis team split a pair of matches on the final day of the North/South Challenge. In their opener the Pirates fell 5-4 to Foothill College. They responded later in the day with a 6-3 win over Fresno City College. Hironori Koyanagi was undefeated on the day in doubles and singles play.

Men's Tennis Knocks Off Undefeated American RiverMarch 18, 2016In a battle of unbeaten men's tennis teams, Ventura College took down American River 6-3 in day one of the North/South Challenge. Corey Karen and Hironori Koyanagi were winners on the singles and doubles sides of play. Michael Burr and Guenter Newman joined them as winners on both sides of play.

Second Consecutive Shut Out for Men's TennisMarch 17, 2016Traveling to Woodland Hills saw the Ventura College men's tennis team win their second consecutive match 9-0 taking down Los Angeles Pierce College. VC used several players in different roles and still picked up the commanding victory. Leonardo Santos and Victor Ribeiro played as the Pirates No. 1 doubles team and claimed a 8-2 win. Evan Gazic and Diego Rodrigues were winners on both the singles and doubles side.

Men's Tennis Uses Shut Out to Down GlendaleMarch 15, 2016Playing at home the Ventura College men's tennis team downed Glendale College by a 9-0 score. The Pirates used some new players in doubles play and swept all three contests. As well, VC did not drop a set while sweeping singles play with Hironori Koyanagi not dropping a point at No. 2 singles. Evan Gazic played at No. 4 singles and won without dropping a point.

Men's Tennis Dominant in Win Over SBCCMarch 10, 2016The Ventura College men's tennis team took on Santa Barbara City College at home and remained undefeated with a dominant 8-1 win. Corey Karen and Hironori Koyanagi earned wins on the doubles and singles side of play. Guenter Newman, as well was a winner on the doubles side of play and on the singles side of play.

Men's Tennis Remains UndefeatedMarch 04, 2016The Ventura College men's tennis team traveled to Orange County to take on Saddleback College and remained undefeated with a 8-1 win. Corey Karen and Hironori Koyanagi teamed up to claim a win at No. 1 doubles and both won their singles matches in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots.

Corey Karen and Hironori Koyanagi were winners both in doubles and in singles play. Evan Gazic picked up his first win of the season at No. 6 singles.

Pirates Men's Tennis Sweeps LA Pierce For WSC WinFebruary 25, 2016The Ventura College men's tennis team picked up their third Western State Conference win of the season with a 9-0 win over LA Pierce. The Pirates won all of their matches in singles play in straight sets. Corey Karen, Leonardo Santos and Diego Rodrigues won their matches without losing a point.

Men's Tennis Shuts Out GlendaleFebruary 23, 2016The Ventura College men's tennis team traveled to Glendale for a Western State Conference match and came home with a 9-0 victory. Hironori Koyanagi, Diego Rodrigues and Guenter Newman were able to pick up wins on the singles and doubles side of play.

Men's Tennis Opens WSC Play With Win Over SBCCFebruary 18, 2016The Ventura College men's tennis team traveled to Santa Barbara for their Western State Conference opener earning a 6-3 victory. Corey Karen, Guenter Newman and Michael Burr were each victorious on the singles and doubles side of the match. VC claimed two of the three doubles matches and then won four of the six singles contests.

Women's Basketball, Men's Tennis Named State Scholar TeamsFebruary 12, 2016The California Community College Athletic Association has announced its academic awards for the 2014-15 year, and the Ventura College is home to two State Scholar Team recipients. Both the women's basketball and men's tennis teams earned the highest academic team achievement given annually by the CCCAA.

Men's Tennis Sweeps Grossmont For Second Win of the SeasonFebruary 05, 2016Following a win over Riverside College the Pirate men's tennis team pulled a 9-0 sweep over Grossmont College. Five different Pirates played both doubles and singles and collected wins as VC improved to 2-0 on the season. Guenter Newman and Michael Burr both improved to undefeated on the season.

Pirates Men's Tennis Claims Season Opening Victory Over RiversideFebruary 04, 2016Ventura College men's tennis team traveled to the inland empire and took on Riverside College and left with a 6-3 victory over the Tigers. Corey Karen and Michael Burr both brought home wins to the Pirates on the singles and doubles side of the match. Ventura won two of three doubles match ups and claimed four of six singles match ups.
