Mendes Final 4 & Elite 8 at OjaiApril 27, 2014Pirate sophomore Vitor Mendes closed his Ventura College career with solid performances in singles and with partner Victor Dos Santos in doubles over the weekend at the CCCAA State Championships held at The Ojai Tournament. Mendes advanced to the semifinals in singles on Saturday before bowing out to the eventual state champion, while he and Dos Santos made it to the quarterfinals in the doubles draw. Matheus Montero fell in the round of 64 in singles and also teamed up with Dylan Foster in doubles in the tournament.

Mendes/Dos Santos Win WSCApril 11, 2014The doubles team of Vitor Mendes and Victor Dos Santos won a pair of matches Friday at the VC Tennis Center, claiming the Western State Conference title on the final day of the conference tournament. Meanwhile, Mendes earlier fell in the singles championship match, claiming the runner-up finish. VC will now have two players in singles competition, Mendes and Matheus Montero, and two doubles teams, Mendes and Dos Santos and Montero and Dylan Foster, playing April 24-27 at the CCCAA State Championshups held in conjunction with The Ojai Tournament.

MTennis Qualifies for StateApril 05, 2014The Pirates' men's tennis team qualified more players for the CCCAA State Championships to be held April 24-27 at The Ojai Tournament on day two of the Western State Conference Championships Saturday at the VC Tennis Center. Vitor Mendes won a pair of matches to advance to the WSC Finals and Matheus Montero came out on top of two matches in the back draw, also punching his ticket to The Ojai. Mendes and Victor Dos Santos won in doubles, headed to the WSC semifinals. The conference tournament will conclude at VC on Friday Apr. 11.

Mendes Qualifies for OjaiApril 04, 2014With the Ventura College men's tennis team on the outside looking in at the CCCAA SoCal Playoffs for the first time in recent memory, individual play took center stage Friday at the Western State Conference Championships at the VC Tennis Center. 2013 state singles runner-up and No. 1-seed Vitor Mendes qualified for the CCCAA State Championships to be held at the end of the month at The Ojai Tournament with a victory, marching into the WSC quarterfinals. Meanwhile Mendes and doubles partner Victor Dos Santos won their round of 16 match to qualify for The Ojai, as did Matheus Montero and Dylan Foster.

MTennis Falls at RiversideApril 02, 2014In their final dual match of the season, the Pirates' men's tennis team fell at Riverside City College 7-2 in a non-conference match Wednesday. Vitor Mendes (No. 1 singles) and Victor Dos Santos (No. 4 singles) were the only two Pirates who managed to put up a point in the match for VC (5-6, 4-2). Mendes won his close match in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5 while Dos Santos outlasted his opponent in three sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.

Pirates Drop Match at CerritosApril 01, 2014The VC men's tennis team's post-season hopes took a shot Tuesday as the Pirates dropped a 7-2 decision in a non-conference match at Cerritos College Tuesday. The Falcons, champions of the South Coast Conference, swept doubles play, and won four of the six singles matches over Ventura (5-5, 4-2). Victor Dos Santos (No. 4 singles) and Arthur Da Silva (No. 5 singles) were the only Pirates who came away with points in the match.

Tennis Wins at BakersfieldMarch 25, 2014The surging Ventura College men's tennis team defeated Bakersfield College 6-3 Tuesday in the Central Valley to claim its fourth consecutive victory in dual competition. Victor Dos Santos and Dylan Foster were double winners at Nos. 4 and 6 singles, respectively, and together in No. 3 doubles. Meanwhile Vitor Mendes was also a double winner at No. 1 singles and with Matheus Montero at No. 1 doubles. Arthur Da Silva produced the sixth point for the Pirates (5-4, 4-2) with a victory in No. 5 singles.

Tennis Makes It Three StraightMarch 20, 2014The VC men's tennis team made it three straight wins Thursday with a 5-4 victory at Los Angeles Pierce College in Woodland Hills. Vitor Mendes was a double winner in No. 1 singles and with Matheus Montero in No. 1 doubles while Victor Dos Santos also won twice, in No. 4 singles and in No. 3 doubles with Dylan Foster. Arthur Da Silva accounted for the Pirates' fifth point with a victory in No. 5 singles. The win moves Ventura (4-4, 3-2) into second place in the Western State Conference standings.

VC Defeats Vaqueros, 5-4March 18, 2014The Pirates' men's tennis team got a measure of revenge Tuesday by defeating Glendale College 5-4 at the VC Tennis Center. It was the Vaqueros that ended VC's seven-year Western State Conference winning streak earlier this year. The match was as close as the score indicated, with three singles matches going three sets. Vitor Mendes, Matheus Montero and Victor Dos Santos all won in singles in the top three spots, with Montero coming from behind to win in three sets. Mendes and Montero were victorious in No. 1 doubles while Dos Santos and Dylan Forster won in No. 3 doubles.

Pirate Tennis Tops GauchosMarch 14, 2014Ventura's men's tennis team got back on track Friday with a 6-3 non-conference victory over visiting Saddleback College at the VC Tennis Center. After falling behind 2-1 in the doubles competition, the Pirates (2-4, 1-2)rallied for five singles wins in the match. Victor Mendes and Matheus Montero were double winners in Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, and together in No. 1 doubles. Meanwhile Victor Dos Santos (No. 4), Arthur Da Silva (No. 5) and Dylan Foster (No. 6) all were victorious in singles action.

Tennis Drops Close MatchMarch 08, 2014For the third time in five matches, the Pirates' men's tennis team dropped a match by the slimmest of a 5-4 margin, Saturday to San Diego Mesa College at the VC Tennis Center. VC won one doubles match, but came back with three singles victories, but were just not able to overcome the Olympians. Vitor Mendes was a winner in No. 1 singles and also partnered with Matheus Mentero to win in No. 1 doubles. Victor Dos Santos (No. 3) and Arthur Da Silva also posted wins in singles for the Pirates (1-4, 1-2).

Rough Start Continues for VCMarch 06, 2014The rough start to the season continued for the Pirates' men's tennis team Thursday as they narrowly lost a 5-4 decision to Los Angeles Pierce College at the newly resurfaced VC Tennis Center. Dylan Foster posted a pair of points for VC (1-3, 1-2) in No. 6 singles and with Victor Dos Santos in No. 3 doubles. Arthur Da Silva was victorious in No. 5 singles, as was Vitor Mendes in No. 1 singles.

M Tennis Defeats BakersfieldMarch 04, 2014The VC men's tennis team captured its first victory of the young season with a6-3 triumph over visiting Bakersfield College at Camino Real park Tuesday afternoon. Victor Mendes won his No. 1 singles in straight sets before teaming up with Matheus Montero to win in No. 1 doubles. Arthur Da Silva won his No. 5 singles match love and love while Victor Dos Santos (No. 4) and Dylan Forster (No. 6) also won in singles. Dos Santos and Foster also won their No. 3 doubles match for the Pirates (1-2, 1-1).

Vaqueros End Pirate StreakFebruary 25, 2014Men's Tennis at Ventura College has dominated the Western State Conference for a long time. That dominance took a hit Tuesday, however, as VC lost its first conference match since 2006, a 6-3 defeat at Glendale College.

Pirate Tennis Drops OpenerFebruary 14, 2014The VC men's tennis team dropped their 2014 season opener in heartbreaking fashion Friday, losing 5-4 to Grossmont College at Camino real park in Ventura. The Pirates fell behind in doubles play, with Vitor Mendes and Matteus Montero winning in No. 1 doubles 9-7. The Griffins managed a split of the six singles matches, with four matches ending in super tiebreakers. Montero (No. 2), Victor Dos Santos (No. 3) and Dylan Foster (No. 6) all produced singles victories for VC (0-1).

M Swimming & M Tennis Earn Academic HonorsFebruary 11, 2014The California Community College Athletic Association has announced its academic awards for the 2012-13 year, and the Ventura College Pirates were named the State Scholar team for both men's swimming and men's tennis. The 2013 men's swimming and diving team had 19 team members and posted an overall grade point average of 3.30. Each student athlete averaged 15.9 units (12.0 units is considered full-time). Meanwhile the men's tennis team achieved a team GPA of 3.38 and each of the eight student athletes completed an average of 13.6 units.
