Pirate Athletics Lists 83 4-Year Transfers for 2019-20August 31, 2020The Ventura College Athletic Department is pleased to report that they list 83 student athletes from 2019-20 who are slated to transfer to four-year institutions in the fall, as of August 31. Of those transfers, 60 plan on continuing their athletic careers at their new school, most of them with an athletic scholarship. The transferring student athletes will attend 58 different schools in 26 states around the country.

2020 VC Men's Golf ReviewApril 29, 2020In a season that concluded with a "what if," the Ventura College men’s golf team looked to make a deep run into the CCCAA State Championships in May. When the 2020 season was suspended due to the coronavirus, the Pirates were alone in second place in the difficult Western State Conference, trailing only defending state champion College of the Canyons. The Pirates had three runner-up finishes and a pair of third-place finishes in five WSC events. In addition to the stellar play of sophomore Mason Teron, two freshmen, Evan Colborn and Steen Zeman each notched individual third-place finishes at separate events.

CCCAA Cancels Spring Seasons, Restores EligibilityMarch 20, 2020The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Board of Directors voted unanimously on Thursday that the remainder of the 2020 spring sports season will be canceled, the spring season of competition for approximately 9,500 student-athletes will be restored and face-to-face recruiting and recruiting-related travel is being prohibited immediately but will be re-evaluated next month. Ventura College is a participant in the CCCAA, and the college has moved to all online instruction for the remainder of the spring semester.

VC Athletics Postpones Spring Sports IndefinitelyMarch 13, 2020In accordance with a directive from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), Ventura College has indefinitely postponed all spring sports, including nontradtional seasons, due to concerns over the COVID-19 outbreak. The move was voted upon by the CCCAA Board of Directors on Thursday afternoon.

Zeman's 2-under Leads VC to Season-Best 369, 2nd at WSC No. 5March 09, 2020Steen Zeman shot a 2-under par 70 on Monday at Santa Maria Country Club, good for a third place finish, to lead the VC golf team to a season best score of 369 to take second place overall at the Western State Conference No. 5 hosted by Allan Hancock College. Mason Teron had a 1-over 73 to come in sixth out of 47 golfers. Canyons won the event with a team score of 357, 3-under par, followed by the Pirates' 9-over mark. Santa Barbara was third at 382.

Great Conditions, Low Scores Prevail at WSC No. 4 in BakersfieldMarch 02, 2020Under good scoring conditions at Stockdale Country Club, the VC golf team posted its second-lowest score of the season at the Western State Conference No. 4 hosted by Bakersfield College. Unfortunately for the Pirates, front-running Canyons and Santa Barbara also went low as Ventura placed third out of eight participating teams. Mason Teron shot a 1-over 73 to post the low score for the Pirates, good for a tie for ninth place overall.

Ventura Finishes No. 3 at WSC Match at Alisal RanchFebruary 17, 2020The Ventura College golf team finished third Monday afternoon at the Western State Conference No. 3 at Alisal Ranch Golf Course in Solvang. Michael Ray was the low Pirate with a 4-over 76 as the Pirates shot a 395 as a team. Canyons won the event with a score of 366 followed by the hosts from Santa Barbara turned in a 373 to finish second.

Teron 1-under, Golf Ties for 5th at MSJC Eagle ClassicFebruary 12, 2020On a perfect day for golf in the Inland Empire, Mason Teron turned in the Pirates' first red number of the season, carding a 1-under par 71 at the Soboba Springs Golf Club Wednesday in the Mt. San Jacinto College Eagle Classic. Teron tied for second place overall, and Micahel Ray tied for ninth with a 1-over 73 leading Ventura to a tie for fifth place overall with a season-best score of 382. Cypress Won the 16-team event with a 367, 15 strokes ahead of the Pirates.

Windy Conditions Previal at WSC No. 2 at Oakmont CCFebruary 10, 2020Sometimes in golf,Mother Nature wins. That was the case Monday at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale as only two players broke 80 on the difficult Par-72 course at the Western State Conference No. 2 hosted by Glendale College. The Pirates carded a 414 as a team to finish second, just five strokes behind College of the Canyons. Freshman Evan Colborn was the low man for VC, shooting an 80 to finish in a tie for third place overall.

Pirate Golf Second at WSC No. 1 at Valencia Country ClubFebruary 03, 2020In windy and cold conditions, Mason Teron fired a 3-over 75 to lead the Pirate golf team to a second place finish at the Western State Conference event hosted by College of the Canyons at Valencia Country Club on Monday. Ventura carded a team score of 408 for a second place finish behind the host Cougars with a 389. Santa Barbara was third two shots behind VC.

Teron 2nd Overall for Golf at Pt. Conception OpenJanuary 27, 2020VC sophomore Mason Teron shot a 74-79--153 to claim second place at the season-opening 36-hole Pt. Conception Open Sunday and Monday at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc. His 9-over par final tally put him three strokes behind the medalist in the event that included 113 individual golfers. As a team Ventura carded a respectable 395-419--814 to come in sixth out of the 20 participating teams.
