Former Pirate quarterback Kyle Schommer returns for his third year on the Ventrua College coaching staff, working with the quarterbacks and quality control on the offensive unit. The Ventura High School product was first-team All-Channel League, first-team All-Ventura County, and started the county all-star game in his Cougar career. He set numerous records in 1996 with the Pirates, and graduated as VC’s all-time leading passer before transferring to Humboldt State.
Schommer began his coaching career in 2002 at Ventura High School, where he helped lead the Cougars to an 11-3 record in 2004, advancing to the CIF-SS championship game. He moved to Santa Paula High School in 2005 before coaching at Ridgecrest High School in 2006 and 2007. He came back to Ventura County at Pacifica High School in 2008-2010 before returning to Ventura High in 2011. Last season he was a part of the Cougars’ 12-2 mark including an appearance in the CIF-SS Coastal Division title match up.
Schommer is a social science teacher at Oxnard High School. He and his wife have a 10-year-old daughter Kai and an 2-year-old son, Henry.
