Four Pirates Earn 1st Team All-SCFA, Duran Offensive PoY

Ventura College quarterback Daniel Duran was a unanimous first team All-Southern California Football Association pick for the 2024 season and was named the SCFA Northern Conference Player of the Year in recent voting by the conference coaches. Wide receiver Jayon Farrar was also a unanimous first-teamer and running back Quran Gossett earned a first team nod as an All-Purpose player. Safety Zane Carter was VC's lone first team All-SCFA pick on defense.

Duran, a sophomore from Sierra Canyon High School, passed for 2,752 yards making all 11 starts for the Pirates in 2024. He had 29 passing touchdowns and just 10 interceptions on the year.

Farrar, from Long Branch, NJ, was one of Duran's favorite targets with 47 receptions for 542 yards. The sophomore caught a team-best nine touchdown passes. He also averaged 28.4 yards per kick return, taking back 18 kicks in 2024.

Gossett, a freshman from Santa Barbara's Bishop Diego High School, totaled 1,043 yards rushing on 160 carries in the 11 Pirate contests. He scored nine touchdowns for VC.  Additionally, he had 37 pass receptions for 308 yards and three more scores.

Buena High School product Carter earned first team All-SCFA honors from his safety position on defense. The sophomore led the Pirates with 88 tackles, 50 solo, and also intercepted four passes. he also served as VC's punter, averaging 38.4 yards per kick on 40 punts.

Offensive lineman Branson Lewis, wide receiver Silas Kemp, running back Jake Murphy and kicker Ryan Pimentel all earned second-team ALl-SCFA accolades on offense. They were joined by defensive end, Ty Ely, outside linebacker Spencer McKelligon, cornerback Ty Morris, kick returner Farrar and utility position Shahid Wilson as second-teamers on defense.

Ventura finished the season with an 8-3 record, the seventh 8-win season for the Pirates in the past nine seasons and ninth overall in the 14-year tenure of head coach Steve Mooshagian. They were 5-2 in Northern Conference games finishing as the league runner-up. The season culminated with an exciting 39-33 Pirate victory at the VC Sportsplex in the Scooter's BBQ Beach Bowl.
