
VC football sophomores Brandon Ocheltree and Steve Sanchez have been named Academic All-State by the California Community College Football Coaches Association as announced last month. Ocheltree posted a team-high grade point average of 3.62 while Sanchez earned a 3.52 GPA. The pair were among 41 players from throughout he state honored with the highest academic distinction. Ventura was one of 11 programs with multiple players honored.
Ocheltree is an offensive lineman from Nordhoff High School in Ojai. He signed with NCAA Division II Missouri Southern University and transferred to the Joplin, MO school for the spring semester.
Sanchez is a product of Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard.
This past season, Ventura College won a share of its sixth Northern Conference championship in the past eight seasons under 10th-year head coach Steve Mooshagian. VC posted an overall record of 8-3, with a 4-1 conference mark, playing in the program's ninth consecutive post-season, hosting the Joe Kapp Real Estate Beach Bowl. VC had 16 players honored by the Southern California Football Association on its Scholar Athlete Team.
