The Pirate football team capped a highly successful opening week of the season with a pair of Northern Conference Player of the Week honors from the Southern California Football Association. Cronerback Jaylen Watson claimed the week's defensive award while defensive back and punt returner Alvin Pacheco was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Watson set the tone for 2017 with a playmaker's mentality. The freshman from Augusta, GA did not have a pass completed against him and recorded four tackles and a pass break-up. He also had two pass interceptions returned for a touchdown, both nullified by penalties unrelated to the outcome of the play, one of which gave the Pirates possession of the ball. he also picked up a third interception and was credited for 40 interception return yards with two official picks.
Pacheco returned the first punt of the season 78 yards to paydirt for the Pirates' first score of 2017. The Allentown, PA sophomore finished with two punt returns for a total of 94 yards.
