The Pirate offensive juggernaut continued in record-setting fashion in the regular-season finale at Cerritos Saturday, taking with it two more Southern California Football Association Player of the Week honors. Quarterback Jake Luton won his sixth award of the season as the Offensive Player of the Week and running back Isaiah Brown won his second award for the year for Special Teams/All-Purpose.
Luton closed out the regular season the same way he started it as he broke his own school record for passing yards in a game. He finished 31-48 in the air for 474 yards and five touchdowns. He now also holds the VC single-season record for touchdown passes with 34. The Oregon State commit led the Pirate offense to school records of 39 first downs and 720 yards of total offense, along with zero punts, in Ventura's 56-35 win at Cerritos to close out an undefeated conference campaign.
Brown ran like a man possessed Saturday, scoring VC's first and last touchdowns of the game, both in powerful and dazzling fashion on his way to paydirt. He finished with 16 carries for 136 yards, and is now closing in on 1,000 yards for the season at 840. Brown also caught three passes for 20 yards and another score. He totaled 156 total yards and three scores in the Pirates' victory, securing an undefeated conference record.
