Pirate defensive back Alvin Pacheco and quarterback Jake Luton have both earned Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Player of the Week honors for week 10. Luton won his fifth Offensive Player of the Week Award of the season while Pacheco was named the Defensive Player of the Week for their efforts in the Pirates' 49-21 win at Bakersfield.
Luton methodically guided the Pirates up and down the field putting up the most points against the Renegades at Memorial Stadium in 62 years. He used his size, arm and agility to account for 343 all purpose yards and five total touchdowns helping VC clinch the Northern Conference championship. Luton was 13-24 for 271 yards in the air with three touchdown passes while carrying the ball 11 times for 72 yards and two more trips to the end zone.
Pacheco continues to show opposing offenses why he was a highly touted defensive back coming out of Central Catholic High School in Pennsylvania. In playoff atmosphere in Bakersfield, he recorded five tackles, two pass break ups and broke the spirit of the Renegades when he undercut an out rout, ripped the ball away from the receiver, broke two tackles and returned the interception 65 yards to the end zone eliminating any dream of a comeback in Ventura's conference-clinching win.
