For the second consecutive week, the Pirate football team is featured prominently in the Southern California Football Association's Northern Conference weekly awards. Following VC's 34-29 victory over four-time state champion Mt. San Antonio at the Sportsplex, Kendric Mallory and Darrian McIntyre have earned SCFA Northern Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Mallory, a freshman wide received from Dayton, Ohio, was one of quarterback Jake Luton's favorite targets this week, with six catches for 105 yards and three touchdowns. His first score was an acrobatic one-handed grab that got the Pirates on the board and his final catch of the evening was a game-winning 38-yard touchdown in the final minute.
McIntyre, meanwhile, was a rock for the bend-but-don't-break VC defense that kept the Pirates in the game despite four first quarter turnovers. He had a team-high 12 tackles, eight solo stops, and also forced a Mt. SAC fumble. He had one tackle for a loss and was a force inside in Ventura's 34-29 victory.
