
With their victory in the 50th installment of the "Big Game" Saturday against visiting Santa Barbara, the Pirates' quarterback Jake Luton and cornerback Vosean Crumbie have been honored by the Southern California Football Association as Players of the Week. Additionally, with his record-setting debut, Luton garnered State Player of the Week honors from the JC Athletic Bureau.
In his first game after transferring from the University of Idaho, Luton completed 36 passes (school record) on 55 attempts (school record) for 487 yards (school record) and 6 touchdowns (ties school record). He helped led the Pirates to the 47-40 victory in the "Big Game" over Santa Barbara City College. Luton was named the SCFA Northern Conference Player of the Week and also honored as State Player of the Week by the JC Athletic Bureau.
In his first collegiate football game, Crumbie, who also came to VC with national attention, finished with five tackles. five pass break-ups and two interceptions, one of which was in the Pirates' red zone at the 1-yard line. He also had five kickoff returns for 107 yards and two put returns for 20 yards in VC's 47-40 victory over SBCC. The SCFA named Crumbie the Northern Conference Special Teams/All-Purpose Player of the Week.
