
Ventura College had a pair of football players honored with weekly Player of the Week Honors following their come-from-behind 59-58 win over El Camino Saturday. Quarterback Brandon Jones garnered State Offensive Player of the Week accolades while wide receiver Jordan Nunnery earned Special Teams/All-Purpose honors.
The California Community College Football Coaches Association and the JC Athletic Bureau awarded Jones with its Offensive Player of the Week award for his efforts against the Warriors. The freshman quarterback from Bakersfield Christian High School connected on 28 of 41 pass attempts for 397 yards and five touchdowns. He guided the game-winning drive with 16 rushing yards and 58 passing yards, hitting five of nine attempts, punctuating the game with a 15-yard scoring strike to Riley Smith on a fourth-and-ten play with 15 seconds left in the game.
Nunnery, meanwhile, earned his award from the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference. The sophomore from Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard had an outstanding all-around game for VC against El Camino. He pulled in 12 receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns, and also had five kickoff returns for 100 yards, giving him 290 all purpose yards in the contest. His elusiveness and motor showed as he played on numerous special teams and almost 90 offensive snaps.
