The Pirate baseball team continued to look for its first win of the young season, dropping a 6-4 decision in Cerritos Thursday afternoon. VC gave up a pair of unearned runs in the third inning that proved to be the difference in the ball game. Codi Santana had two hits and a walk with two RBI for VC (0-4).
Ventura found themselves down 4-0 after giving up single runs in the first two innings and the two unearned runs in the third. They came back with three runs in the third as Tony Fonzo had a sacrifice fly to score Taylor Campos, and Santana doubled to plate Dylan Colman and Bradley Fullerton. The Falcons answered with two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth, and VC scored in the eighth when Adisson Pelupessy crossed the plate on Fullerton's groundout.
Santana had a pair of hits with two RBI and Coleman was 2-3 with a run scored.
Colton Follett pitched into the fifth inning for the Pirates, yielding all six Falcon runs. Billy Davidson, Alex Van Es, Alexander Torres and Campos combined for 3.2 innings of two-hit, shutout ball out of the bullpen.
The Pirates will open their home schedule with a pair of games against West Hills College from Coalinga on Friday and Saturday Feb. 6 and 7. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm and Saturday will begin at 1:00 pm.
