Godina, Torres Lead VC Women's XC Awards, Tienda Leads Men

Sophia Godina earned the Western State Conference's Female Runner of the Year Award while teammate Brianna Torres was named first team All-WSC following the 2023 conference championships on Oct. 20. Erick Tienda led the Pirates' men's award winners with his first team All-WSC honor for his efforts in the 2023 season.

Godina, VC's first individual conference champion since 1994 won the conference championships by a 26-second margin. The Rio Mesa High School product ran the 5k course in 18:10 to earn the conference's top honor. The sophomore also ran in the runner-up position at the Southern California Regionals and at the 3C2A State Championships.

Torres capped a stellar freshman campaign by finishing fourth in the conference finals. The Oxnard High School grad also earned first team All-WSC honors.

Tienda, a sophomore from Rio Mesa High School, paced the Ventura men and finished 12th in the WSC finals to earn his first team all-conference nod.

Adrian Valdez (Oxnard), Diego Quezada (Oxnard) and Colin Crisostomo (Buena) were named second team All-WSC for VC's men's cross country team and Kevin Ramirez (Rio Mesa) earned honorable mention accolades. 

Addy Cornell (Newbury Park Adventist) was named second team ALL-WSC for the Pirate women and Yesenia Molina (Oxnard) was honorable mention All-WSC.

 
 
The Ventura men were third as a team at the WSC Championships before finishing 13th at the Southern California Regionals and 16th at state. The Pirate women, meanwhile, came in fourth in the WSC before placing 13th at SoCal's and 15th at the 3C2A State Championships in Fresno.
