Olivia Burton capped off a stellar freshman season with a third place finish at the CCCAA State Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at Woodward park in Fresno. As a team, the Pirates finished in 8th place overall, the program's second straight top-10 state performance. On the men's side, Adan Cruz capped his Pirate career finishing 47th of 168 runners.
The Ventura College women's cross country team qualified for the CCCAA State Championships with a seventh place finish Friday morning at the SoCal Regionals in Cerritos. The Pirate men, meanwhile, had a disappointing finish after an injury forced a top runner out of the race. Olivia Burton paced the VC women with a third place finish and Adan Cruz qualified for state individually for the men in 31st place overall.
The Ventura College men's and women's cross country teams both qualified for the Southern California Regionals Friday with strong showings at the Western State Conference championships in San Dimas. The Pirate women came in a strong third place among the 15 competing teams while the men had their best race of the year coming in fifth of 14 teams. Olivia Burton led the women with a second place finish while Adan Cruz came in sixth for the VC men.
The VC men's and women's cross country team ran at the Western State Conference Preview at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo Friday with the women finishing a strong third, and the men coming in eighth. Adam Cruz came in 10th in his first meet of the season to lead the Pirate men while Olivia Burton continued her strong campaign with a runner-up finish for the women.
The VC men's and women's cross country teams battled triple-digit heat and a small field at the Bakersfield Invitational Friday at Kern County Soccer Park. The Pirate women were the top-performing community college team, finishing second behind NAIA Mt. Mercy University of Iowa while the VC men came in forth of the five scoring teams. Olivia Burton won her second race of the season, completing the 5k course in 19:20 to lead the women and Johnny Ordaz paced the men placing 10th on the 4-mile course with a mark of 23:29.
The Ventura College women's cross country team continued its strong season Friday with a third place finish atthe SoCal Preview meet at Don Knabe Regional Park in Cerritos. Olivia Burton (2nd), Tatiana Garcia (6th) and Brieanna Tafoya (13th) led the Pirate charge in the 21-team event. The Pirate men, running shorthanded once again, came in 21st of the 28 competing teams. Everado Magana was the top finisher for the VC men.
The Pirates' men's and women's cross country teams ran at the Oxnard Invitational with the women coming in with a runner up finish and the men placing fourth overall. Tatiana Garcia led the VC women, finishing in fourth place covering the 5k course in 20:11 while Everado Magana was seventh for the men, running the 4-mile course in 21:59.
