On a perfect Saturday morning for cross country - clear, sunny, and 50 degrees - the Ventura College women's cross country team took to the Woodward Park 5k course to put o bow on a successful 2015 campaign. The Pirates placed 17th overall out of 27 teams and produced several personal bests. Jordyn Vassaur capped off her sophomore season with a 27th place finish.
Sam Boyle continued his strong season for the Ventura College men's cross country team with an eighth place finish at the SoCal Regionals Friday in San Diego, qualifying him for the state meet to be held Nov. 21 in Fresno. Led by Jordyn Vassaur, the VC women qualified for state as a team with their 13th place finish in San Diego.
The Ventura College men and women's cross country teams took an important step toward realizing their state championship goals, when they competed at the Western State Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by West Los Angeles College Friday. Jordyn Vassaur and Sam Boyle led the women's and men's teams, respectively, to automatic qualification for the SoCal Regionals on Nov. 6.
Pirate sophomore Sam Boyle took control at the 2-mile mark and raced to a 10-second victory in the 4-mile men's Western State Conference preview at Oxnard College Friday morning. Boyle's lifetime best mark of 20:18 led him to the individual medalist honor, and the VC men's cross country team finished seventh overall while Jordyn Vassaur placed fifth in the women's race leading the Pirates to a fifth place team finish.
The men and women's Pirate cross country teams competed on the Kern County Soccer Park, the home course for Bakersfield College, for the annual Bakersfield Invitational on Friday. VC took the lion's share of the medals producing the men and women's individual champions as well as a thrilling men's team win.
Jordyn Vassaur and Sam Boyle both ran race day personal records as they lead the Ventura College women's and men's cross country teams, respectively, at the Southern California Regional Preview in San Diego's Mission Bay Park Firday. The Pirate women came in 14th place of the 24 teams while the VC men were 17th among the 29 SoCal teams in the event.
For the first time in recent memory, a Pirate headed the field at the season-opening Ventura Invitational cross country meet. VC sophomore Jordyn Vassaur won the women's 5k race with a time of 21:47, besting the second place runner by over 30 seconds on the challenging Arroyo Verde Park course. The Pirate men placed third of six participating teams in the meet.
