Women's Polo Has Four Earn 1st Team All-WSC

The VC women's water polo team has had four players who were named first team All-Western State Conference in a vote by conference coaches. Sophomores Ahna Davis and Emily Baughn are joined by first year players Kelsee Espitia and Ella Montano on the WSC's list of top players from the 2023 season.

Baughn, an attacker from Thousand Oaks High School, started in 30 of 31 games from the Pirates this season, scoring 38 goals with 36 assists. She also totaled 44 steals defensively with 37 exclusions drawn. She wa also a first team All-WSC selection a year ago.

Davis, meanwhile, was a stalwart in the cage for the past two seasons for VC. The second-year player from Porterville started 29 games and played in 82 quarters in 2023. She totaled 219 saves on the season with a .600 save percentage. She also scored seven goals and grabbed 82 steals, and was credited with 13 wins while in goal. Davis was also a first team All-WSC honoree as a freshman.

Espitia, a Ventura High School product, was the Pirates' leading scorer in 2023, totaling 58 goals and handing out a team-best 50 assists. She also grabbed 44 steals defensively and drew 17 exclusions. 

Montano, meanwhile, was second on the team with 56 goals and 47 assists. She also graduated from Ventura High School and totaled 56 steals on defense. Montano also recorded 29 drawn exclusions.

Sophomore defender Kendal Santos and freshman center AnnMarie Patterson were both named second team All-WSC by the conference coaches.

Sophomores Gabrielle MacNeill and Kendall Ribbers earned honorable mention nods.

The Pirates ended the 2023 campaign with a final record of 21-11, the fifth season since 1998, and the second in three years, with 20+ wins. VC was also the WSC runner-up for the third straight year under head coach Linda Wright.
