VC Claims Two More Big Wins

For the second Friday in a row, the Pirates' women's water polo team beat up on Palomar and Southwestern, this time at the Mt. SAC Mountie Classic in Walnut. VC defeated Palomar 18-7 in the tournament opener before running away from Southwestern 18-1 in game two. AnnMarie Patterson scored eight goals in the two contests while Gabrielle MacNeill netted six scores. Goalie Paige LeBaron recorded 17 saves on the day in the cage for Ventura (9-2).

Ventura 18, Palomar 7

The Pirates, ranked No. 8 in the state, used 5-1 quarters in the first and third periods to blow past the Comets. MacNeill found the inside of the cage four times while Patterson netted three goals. Kelsee Espitia scored twice with a pair of assists and two steals and Milla Malesich recorded two goals with three thefts. Kendal Santos also had two scores with three steals defensively. LeBaron played three quarters and had 10 saves in goal.

Ventura 18, Southwestern 1

The nightcap was never close as Ventura raced to a 7-0 lead after eight minutes of play and led 12-1 at intermission. Patterson scored five times with a pair of steals and Emily Baughn scored three times. MacNeill recorded two goals against the Jaguars and Ella Montano played well with two scores, three assists and four steals. LeBaron turned back seven Southwestern shots in the cage with a pair of assists.

VC continues play at Mt. San Antonio Saturday, taking on Cypress at 11:30 am before a showdown with No. 4 Saddleback at 4:10 pm.
