Women's Polo Falls Twice at Battle at the Beach

The Ventura College women's water polo team dropped a pair of games Friday at the Battle at the Beach in Long Beach on Friday. VC fell to the host Vikings 18-6 in the opener before dropping a close 9-7 decision to Palomar in the nightcap. Kendall Ribbers had four goals on the day with two assists, two steals and two drawn ejections and Daphne Neilan also netted four scores with a helper, three thefts and a drawn ejection for the Pirates (9-8, 3-1).

Ventura 6, Long Beach 18

VC had a difficult time getting going in the tournament opener at No. 6-ranked Long Beach City College, falling behind 6-0 after the first quarter and trailing 10-3 at halftime.

Ribbers scored twice with a pair of assists, one steal and two drawn ejections to lead Ventura while Kendal Santos also recorded a pair of goals with two drawn ejections. Emily Baughn found the cage once with an assist and Gabrielle MacNeill had a goal, one steal and one drawn ejection. Neilan handed out an assist with a pair of thefts while Savannah Packard and Gabrielle Mendoza also grabbed two steals each.

Ventura 7, Palomar 9 

The Pirates held a 6-3 advantage over the Comets at halftime but could not hold on for the victory in the their second game on Friday. 

Neilan found the inside of the cage four times to lead Ventura and Ribbers netted a pair of goals. Baughn scored once with two assists and Santos dropped two dimes with six steals defensively. MacNeill also handed out a pair of assists in the game.

VC continues play in the Battle at the Beach on Saturday Oct. 21 at Cerritos College against Los Angeles Valley at 8:00 am.
