Pirate sophomore Cali Iadevaia had two goals, an assist and a steal in VC's 9-7 setback at LA Valley Monday.

The VC women's water polo team dropped their regular season finale 9-7 Monday afternoon at Los Angeles Valley College in Valley Glen. Cali Iadevaia, Raylynn Lipsky and Lauren Mora each scored twice for the Pirates in the game that was a make-up of a contest postponed from Oct. 30. With the loss, VC receives the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Western State Conference Tournament.

The Pirates (14-12, 2-4) took the early lead on Lipsky's goal, but the Monarchs came back with three unanswered scores for a 3-1 margin at the end of the first quarter. LAVC extended their lead to 6-1 in the second period before late scores by Iadevaia and Lipsky closed the gap to 6-3 at halftime.

Iadevaia found the cage early in the second half to cut the deficit to a single goal, but LA Valley responded with three straight scores to put the game out of reach.

Shaeleigh Russell added a goal with an assist and one steal while Iadevaia added a helper and a theft to her stat line. Mora also recorded an assist and a steal and Lipsky had one assist. Shayle Barrus recorded nine saves in the cage and had a pair of assists.

Ventura will next open play in the WSC Tournament on Wednesday Nov. 6 at No. 4-seeded Cuesta. The Pirates and Cougars split two games this year, with each posting come-from-behind victories.
