Women's Polo Sweeps Two in Home Opener

The VC women's water polo team played at the Ventura Aquatic Center for the first time this season, defeating Crafton Hills and the VC Alumnae. Cali Iadevaia had six goals in the two games and Drew Reyes had a pair of scores, three assists and two steals for Ventura (5-3). Goalie Shayle Barrus turned back 16 shots while allowing just three goals playing in the first half of each game.

Ventura 13, Crafton Hills 2
The Pirates jumped out to an 11-0 halftime lead in easily defeating the first-year program. Lauren Mora scored four goals in the game while Iadevaia had three scores. Leanna Ramirez scored twice with an assist while Reyes found the net one time with three helpers and a steal. Raylynn Lipsky anchored the defense with four steals and Barrus turned back six shots in the first half. Abby Coker also handed out a pair of assists.

Ventura 9, VC Alumnae 7
The Pirates of the present outlasted the Pirates of the past in VC's annual Alumnae Game. Iadevaia netted three more scores with an assist and two steals while Chloe Golden and Masiel Martinez each scored twice. Reyes also had two goals and a steal in the game and Barrus recorded 10 saves. Lipsky had three steals and an assist to bolster the present Pirates' efforts.

Ventura will open Western State Conference play on Wednesday Sept. 25 at Santa Barbara City College. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:20 pm at Santa Barbara High School.
