Ventura Advances in WSC Tournament

VC freshman Drew Reyes had four goals and two assists as the Pirates defeated LA Pierce 16-4 in the WSC quarterfinals Wednesday afternoon.

The Ventura College women's water polo team advanced to the Western State Conference Tournament semifinals with a 16-4 quarterfinal victory over LA Pierce Wednesday at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Drew Reyes led the way with four goals and two assists while Elizabeth Arlington and Cali Iadevaia each scored three goals for VC (13-11, 5-2).

The Pirates jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Brahmas in the first period and led 6-2 at halftime. Ventura augmented the edge to 9-3 after three periods before  pulling away in the fourth.

Iadevaia added two assists, three steals and three drawn exclusions and Chloe Golden had a score with an assist and four steals. Shaeleigh Russell found the cage one time with three helpers while Shayne Naylor scored twice with one steal. Raylynn Lipsky had a goal and an assist in the game. Shayle Barrus had a goal and assist in the field and had four saves in two quarters in goal. Haley Hall stopped three shots in the cage.

The Pirates advance to take on Cuesta in the WSC semifinals on Friday Nov. 2 at 11:00 am in Santa Monica. VC fell 10-6 to the Cougars on Oct. 13 in the teams' previous meeting. The conference finals will be Saturday Nov. 3, also in Santa Monica.
