Women's Polo Splits Pair in Battle at the Beach

The Pirates' women's water polo team split their final two games of the Battle at the Beach at Cypress College Saturday. VC (12-11, 4-2) defeated Cerritos 10-4 in the morning game before faltering in the second half of a 13-8 loss to host Cypress. Raylynn Lipsky had four goals, six assists, five steals and a drawn exclusion in the two games while Shayne Naylor netted two scores with a pair of assists and two drawn exclusions.

Ventura 10, Cerritos 4
Ventura led 5-0 at halftime, and extended the lead to 6-0 before Cerritos got on the board in the third quarter. Cali Iadevaia had four goals and an assist to lead the charge for the Pirates while Lipsky had two scores with four assists, three steals and a drawn exclusion. Drew Reyes had a goal and an assist and Abby Cocker netted one goal with a steal. Shaeleigh Russell found the inside of the cage one time with an assist and a steal while Naylor had a goal and one drawn exclusion. Haley Hall and Shayle Barrus recorded six and four saves, respectively, in sharing time in the cage.

Ventura 8, Cypress 13
The Pirates and Chargers were tied 2-2 at the end of the first quarter and 5-5 at halftime before Cypress pulled away in the second half. Lipsky led VC with two goals, two assists and two steals while Naylor scored once with a drawn exclusion and one steal. Annie Magno netted a pair of scores with an assist and Russell also recorded a goal with one drawn exclusion and one steal. Chloe Golden also scored for the Pirates. Hall had three saves in goal and Barrus stopped two shots and had an assist.

Ventura next heads to the Western State Conference Tournament as the No. 3-seed in the draw.
