Women's Polo Splits Final Day of Ventura Tournament

Wrapping up the annual Ventura Tournament on Saturday, the VC women's water polo team defeated El Camino 14-2 before falling to Fullerton 14-5 at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Shayle Barrus scored five goals on the day with a pair of assists and two drawn exclusions, in addition to recording eight saves in three quarters of play in goal. Shayne Naylor had four scores in the two games for Ventura (8-8, 2-1) with a pair of assists and two drawn exclusions.

Ventura 14, El Camino 2
In the opener, the Pirates had no trouble with visiting El Camino College. VC opened up a 4-0 lead at the end of the firs quarter and never looked back in the victory. Barrus recorded three goals with an assist, one steal and a drawn exclusion while Naylor also had three scores with two assists and a steal. Raylynn Lipsky found the back of the net three times while handing out one helper with one theft.  Shaeleigh Russell scored once with three assists and two steals and Aryanna Martinez had a goal with two helpers. Annie Magno also had a goal and an assist while Kaitlin Theobald and Chloe Golden also scored for the Pirates/ Haley Hall recorded six saves in the cage and Sophia Anorga recorded three stops.

Ventura 5, Fullerton 14
In a physical contest that had 31 exclusions whistled, the Pirates fell to Fullerton 14-5 in the tournament finale. After recording eight saves in goal in the first three quarters, Barrus went to the field in the fourth to score a pair of goals. Naylor had a score with two drawn exclusions and Theobald scored once with three drawn exclusions. Magno also scored with an assist in the game. Lipsky handed out one assist with one steal and two drawn exclusions.

Ventura returns to the pool on Saturday Oct. 13 with a pair of Western State Conference games. They will host Cuesta at 2:30 pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center before taking on LA Pierce at 5:30 pm.
