The Ventura College women's water polo team split a pair of games on the first day of the Ventura Tournament at the Ventura Aquatic Center on Friday. VC (7-7, 2-1) ran away from Santa Monica 17-4 in a Western State Conference match-up in the first game before falling to Mt. San Antonio 9-8 on a last-second goal by the Mounties in the nightcap. Drew Reyes had six goals, three assists, two steals and three drawn exclusions on the day to lead the Pirates.

Ventura 17, Santa Monica 4
The Pirates jumped all over the Corsairs early in the WSC contest. Ventura raced to an 8-1 advantage after the first eight minutes with Raylynn Lipsky netting three of her game-high four goals in the first quarter. Reyes also scored twice in the period. Ventura opened the lead up to 11-3 at halftime in cruising to the 17-4 victory.

Lipsky added an assist and two steals to her goal count while Reyes scored three times with a pair of assists, one steal and one drawn exclusion. Talullah Lund Sidi had three goals with two helpers and three drawn exclusions and Shayle Barrus found the net three times with an assist. Aryanna Martinez scored a goal with two assists and Shaeleigh Russell recorded one score with two helpers. Elizabeth Arlington had one goal and an assist while Shayne Naylor also scored for the Pirates. Haley Hall had seven saves and three assists in the cage.

Ventura 8, Mt. San Antonio 9
In the nightcap, Ventura was unable to hold a 7-3 halftime advantage, falling in the final second of play. The Pirates led 4-1 after one period and clung to a 7-6 advantage after three quarters of play.

Reyes had three goals, including a go-ahead score with 3:53 remaining in the game, one assist, one steal and one drawn exclusion. Russell had a pair of scores and Lipsky scored once with an assist, one steal and one drawn exclusion. Annie Magno found the inside of the cage one time with an assist and a steal and Naylor had a goal with two helpers. Lund Sidi dished out two assists and grabbed two steals. Barrus recorded eight saves in goal.

The tournament concludes on Saturday Oct. 6 at the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Pirates will play El Camino at 9:05 am before wrapping up the weekend against Fullerton at 1:25 pm.
