VC Women's Water Polo Defeats Alumnae 11-4

The VC women's water polo team defeated the VC Alumnae 11-4 Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center.

The current version of the Ventura College women's water polo team had an easy time with the VC alumnae Saturday, defeating the "Pirates of the Past" 11-4 at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Cali Iadevaia had six goals and an assist to lead Ventura (5-2) while Drew Reyes scored twice. Shayle Barrus had a goal, an assist and three steals in the field while stopping eight shots while playing goalie for the Pirates.

Iadevaia got Ventura on the board with three goals midway through the first quarter. She then scored on the final possession of the period to make it 4-0 for the current squad at the quarter break.

The Ventura High School freshman scored her fifth straight goal two minutes into the second period and the present day Pirates led 5-0.  After two alumnae scores, Shaeleigh Russell found the back of the net. Reyes then answered an alumnae score with two goals in the final 1:30 of the half. Ventura led 8-3 at intermission.

Both teams netted a score in the third quarter with Barrus finding the cage at the 2:23 mark. 

In the final stanza, Chloe Golden scored an unassisted goal and Iadevaia netted her sixth score of the game.

Aryanna Martinez and Talullah Lund Sidi each handed out a pair of assists for VC while Raylynn Lipsky picked up four steals. Haley Hall and Sophia Anorga each had four saves in a quarter of play in the goal.

Ventura continues Western State Conference play on Wednesday Sept. 26, hosting Santa Barbara at 2:00 pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
