Women's Polo Continues Hot Start at Cuesta Tourney

The VC women's water polo team continued their hot start to the 2018 season with two wins Saturday at the Cuesta Tournament in games played in Morro Bay. The Pirates (3-0) defeated Diablo Valley 11-4 in the first game of the day before topping Foothill 14-6 in the nightcap. Cali Iadevaia led the way with nine goals in the two contests while Shayne Naylor scored five goals with three assists and five steals defensively.

Ventura 11, Diablo Valley 4
VC opened up the game with a 6-0 second period, holding an 8-2 advantage at intermission. Iadevaia netted five goals on just six shots against the Vikings. Se also had three exclusions drawn while Annie Magno scored three goals with four steals. Shayle Barrus had seven saves and two assists in goal while Haley Hall turned back four DVC shot attempts.

Ventura 14, Foothill 6
The Pirates were ahead 3-1 at the end of one quarter and 7-2 at halftime in the victory. Iadevaia and Naylor each scored four goals with two assists and each pulled in four steals on defense. Naylor also recorded four drawn exclusions. Shaeleigh Russell had three goals and a pair of assists while Magno scored one time while handing out four helpers. Raylynn Lipsky netted two scores with three steals. Barrus had three saves in the cage.

Ventura returns home to the Ventura Aquatic Center on Wednesday Sept. 12 to open Western State Conference play against LA Valley. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
