Pirates Gain Measure of Redemption With WSC Victory

Just three days ago, the VC women's water polo team dropped a 7-6 decision to LA Valley at the truWest Battle at the Beach in Long Beach. Wednesday, the Pirates gained a measure of redemption with a 12-5 victory over the Monarchs in Western State Conference play. Kelsey Golden and Sara McGuire each scored three goals while Kayla Wallace recorded two scores with three assists for Ventura (12-13, 1-3).

After falling behind 2-0 early, the Pirates rallies to tie the score at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter on goals by Katie Flores, Golden and McGuire. Adriana Bese and Golden netted scores in the second period as VC shutout the Monarchs' in the quarter for a 5-3 halftime edge. The Pirates extended their lead to 8-4 after three quarters of play before outscoring LAVC 4-1 in the final stanza.

Golden added three steals to her three goals while McGuire handed out one assist with her three scores. Wallace had two goals, three helpers, two steals and three drawn exclusions and Sabrina Cherfane had two assists and two thefts. Katia Flores had one goal with two assists while Bese, Samantha Ontiveros and Talullah Lund Sidi all recorded single goals. Haley Hall turned in 13 saves in goal for the Pirates.

Ventura will close the regular season at home on Friday Oct. 27 with a pair of matches at the Ventura Aquatic Center.  VC hosts Cuesta at 2:15 pm before playing LA Pierce at 7:00 pm.
