Women's Polo Can't Hold On Against Hancock

The Pirates' women's water polo team held a 7-4 advantage late in the third period against visiting Allan Hancock College Wednesday but could not hold on as the Bulldogs scored the final six goals of the match for the 10-7 result. Kayla Wallace had a pair of goals with two assists and seven steals for VC (5-10, 0-2) and Katie Heath scored twice with an assist and two steals.

After trailing 3-2 at the end of the first period, Ventura came back to lead Hancock 5-4 at halftime. They extended the lead to 7-4 on Heath's goal with 1:20 left in the third quarter before the Bulldogs came storming back.

Sara McGuire, Sabrina Cherfane and Katia Flores also scored goals for the Pirates and Kelsey Golden handed out two assists with two steals. Cherfane also recorded four thefts in the game. Haley Hall had six saves in goal for VC.

The Pirates will host the Ventura Tournament this coming weekend, Friday and Saturday Oct. 6 and 7. VC opens with El Camino at 9:45 am Friday and hosts Cypress at 4:15 pm.  Saturday VC will play Palomar and San Diego Miarmar at 8:00 am and 12:20 pm, respectively.  All games will be held at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
