Pirates Fall Twice in Top Bracket of San Diego Classic

After a pair of victories Friday, the Pirates' women's water polo team took a pair of losses Satruday in the top bracket of the San Diego Women's Water Polo Classic at Miramar College. VC (5-9) lost to Cypress 11-7 in the first match of the day before falling 16-3 to Sierra College in the second. Kelsey Golden had four goals, five steals and a drawn exclusion n the two contests and Kayla Wallace handed out two assists with three exclusions and seven steals.

Ventura 7, Cypress 11
The Pirates fell to the Chargers forthe second time this season.  A 4-1 second quarter for Cypress sealed the deal in the loss. Golden scored three times with four steals and Sabrina Cherfane recorded a score with two helpers and three thefts. Katie Heath socred once with an assist and a stea; while Sara McGuire also found the net for the Pirates. Wallace had two assists, two drawn exclusions and three steals. Haley Hall had three saves in goal.

Ventura 3, Sierra 16
In the tournament finale, Ventura was overwealmed by the Wolverines. Cherfane had a goal with two steals and Golden scored once with a steal and an exclusion. Talullah Lund Sidi also netted a goal and Wallace recorded four steals with a drawn exclusion. Heath grabbed a pair of thefts and Katia Flores handed out an assist with two exclusions. Sophia Anorga turned back five shots in the cage.

The Pirates continue Western State Conference play at home on Wednesday Cot. 4 against Allan Hancock College.  The match is scheduled to begin at 2:15 pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center.  VC will also be home on Friday and Saturday Oct. 6 and 7 for the annual ventura Tournament.
