Young Beats "Old(er)" as Pirates Defeat Alumnae

The youth won out Saturday morning as the VC women's water polo team defeated the VC Alumnae 15-10 at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Kelsey Golden led a spirited attack by the current Pirates with five goals, three assists and a steal. Samantha Ontiveros netted three scores for the Pirates (3-7) while Sara McGuire and Kayla Wallace each scored twice.

Ventura came out strong, working to a 5-1 advantage after one quarter of play.  The Pirates of the present extended their lead over the Pirates of the past to 9-3 at halftime.  In the second half, the Alumnae showed a little spirit, closing to within four goals on a number of occasions before the current team pulled away in the final minute for the 15-10 victory.

Wallace added three assists and four steals to her two scores, and McGuire had an assist and a theft. Katie Heath added a goal, three assists and a pair of steals. Jazmyn Vasquez scored once with two steals while Sabrina Cherfane also had a goal with an assist and a steal. Haley Hall and Sophie Anorga split time in goal recording seven and six saves, respectfully.

Ventura travels to the San Diego Tournament on Friday and Saturday Sept. 29 and 30 before hosting Allan Hancock College on Wednesday Oct. 4.
