Women's Polo Stretches Win Streak to Nine in Tourney

The Pirates' women's water polo team concluded the Ventura Tournament with two more wins Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center, giving the team nine wins in a row.  VC (17-5, 4-1) posted blow-out victories over El Camino, 15-5, and San Diego Miramar, 12-3.  Paige Treloar-Ballard netted seven goals on the day with an assist and eight steals while Ylva Ostlin had five scores with four assists and three steals.  Valeria Ramirez had 13 saves in goal for the Pirates.

Ventura scored an incredible 11 goals in the first quarter, opening up an 11-2 edge they never relinquished in the 15-5 victory.  Treloar-Ballard netted four goals while Ostlin had a pair of scores, four assists and two steals.  Lauren Wiksell had five steals to go along with a goal and an assist and Kelsey Golden added two scores.  Beth Arbon had a goal with two assists and two steals and MaryBeth Schroder, Kalyn Pina, Katia Flores, Brittany Camp and Katia Flores all had one goal each.  Ramirez turned back five shots by the Warriors and Devon Compton had four saves.

The Pirates led 4-0 at the end of the first eight minutes, and led 7-1 at intermission.  Treloar-Ballard had three goals and seven steals while Ostlin also scored three times. Camp  netted two goals and Pina, Wiksell, Samantha Ontiveros and Golden all had one goal.  Maeve Flynn had three steals and Christina Jimenez handed out two assists.  Ramirez had eight saves in goal.

Ventura will have 11 days off before returning to the pool against Los Angeles Valley on Wednesday Oct. 19.  The Pirates will look to secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Western State Conference Tournament in the contest against the Monarchs that begins at 2:15pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
