VC Continues Strong Start in Women's Water Polo

The Pirate's women's water polo team continued their strong start with a pair of victories Saturday at the Cuesta Tournament in San Luis Obispo.  VC defeated Hancock 16-5 in the first contest of the day before posting a solid 14-9 victory over Diablo Valley in the second.  Paige Treloar-Ballard had nine goals on the day with four drawn ejections while Lauren Wiksell scored eight times with six assists for Ventura (4-0).

The Pirates handled their conference foe with relative ease to start the day, racing out to a 12-4 halftime advantage. Wiksell netted four goals with a pair of assists, one drawn ejection and a steal in the win over the Bulldogs.  Treloar-Ballard found the net three times with a pair of drawn ejections and two steals while Ylva Ostlin had three scores. Maeve Flynn scored twice with three steals in the match and Valeria Ramirez turned back four shots in goal.

VC scored six straight goals to start the second half, three in the third period and three in the fourth, to open up what was an 8-8 game at halftime. Treloar-Ballard had six goals and two assists and Ostlin found the back of the net three times.  Wiksell scored four times and dished out four assists while Flynn handed out five helpers.  Ramirez was solid in the goal once again with six saves, and gave up just one inconsequential goal the entire second half.

The undefeated Pirates will head back for their home opener, beginning Western State Conference play Wednesday Sept. 14 against Santa Barbara.  the match is scheduled to begin at 2:15pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
