Women's Polo Rolls In Season Opening Tournament

The Pirates' women's water polo team opened the season with a pair of impressive victories at the Cypress Tournament Saturday.  They defeated East Los Angeles 18-4 in the first match of the day before turning around to defeat the host Cypress Chargers 15-3 in the nightcap. Paige Treloar-Ballard had 10 goals on the day to lead VC with three assists and seven steals.  Devon Compton turned back eight shots in goal in the two matches.

Ventura 18, East Los Angeles 4
The Pirates exploded for 12 goals in the opening period of the season, taking control of the match from the onset.  Treloar-Ballard scored four goals i the match with a pair of assists and steals, respectively.  Christina Jimenez had two scores to go along with two assists and three steals while Sabrina Cherfane netted a pair of goals with an assist and three thefts.  Beth Arbon recorded two goals and Katia Flores handed out three assists with a goal.  Pirate goalies turned back 10 shots by the Huskies, led by Valeria Ramirez with five saves.

Ventura 15, Cypress 3
Treloar-Ballard led the Pirates on both ends of the pool with six goals on offense and five steals defensively.  Lauren Wiksell netted four goals with four assists and MaryBeth Schroder scored twice. Compton had eight saves in the cage.

Ventura (2-0) returns to the pool on Saturday Sept. 10 at the Cuesta Tournament before opening Western State Conference play at home against Santa Barbara on Wednesday Sept. 14 at 2:15pm.
