Women's Polo 1-1 to Conclude Battle at the Beach

In the final day of the Battle at the Beach Tournament hosted at Cypress College, the Ventura College women's water polo team split their two games. Opening the day against Mt. San Antonio College, the Pirates dropped an 11-3 decision before rebounding in their final game of the weekend with an 11-6 victory over Orange Coast. Goalkeeper Anjali Paramanandam collected 18 saves on the day while Lauren Wiksell netted three goals.

In the opening game of the day, the Pirates came out flat offensively, collecting just three goals. Maeve Flynn picked up two scores while Brittany Camp recorded the Pirates' other goal. Paramanandam collected nine saves, but the Mounties' attack was too strong, scoring 11 goals in the victory. With the loss the Pirates dropped to 1-2 in the tournament heading into their final game of the weekend.

Following their rough early game, the Pirates responded with a well-played effort to pick up their second victory of the challenging tournament weekend. Ventura held a 3-1 advantage after one period of play and the score was 7-4 at the half.  Both teams scored once in the third auqrter before VC pulled away in the final period.

Wiksell scored all three of her goals on the day versus OCC, while Reginae Maturino netted three goals in the finale. Kalyn Pina added two scores for the Pirates with Elizabeth Seacord and Danielle Pfeifer each found the back of the net to round out the scoring. Raquel Rodriguez and Camp both assisted on a pair of VC goals. Paige Treloar-Ballard collected two drawn ejections. Ventura's defense picked up seven total steals led by Rodriguez's three.

Paramanandam picked up nine more saves for the Pirates defense to led the way to victory. Her stellar play in net allowed the Ventura maintain an steady offensive attack with 22 total shots on goal as a team.

Ventura has one final Western State Conference game left when they will face off with Santa Barbara City College on Wednesday Oct. 28 for a 5:20 pm game at San Marcos High School. They will then travel to Los Angeles Valley College on Nov 5, 6 and 7 for the WSC tournament.
