Pirates Dominant in Two Wins Saturday

The VC women's water polo team returned to the Ventura Aquatic Center on Saturday for a pair of games, producing two dominant efforts to close the Ventura Tournament. In game one VC defeated San Diego Miramar 18-5. In their second game, the Pirates ran away from El Camino for a 13-3 victory. Paige Treloar-Ballard netted seven goals with Kalyn Pina adding five scores on the day.

Ventura 18, San Diego Miramar 5
The Pirates (13-7, 3-2) jumped all over Miramar  in the first half with a 9-3 led heading into halftime.  VC extended the led to 12-5 after three quarters and cruised in for the 18-5 victory. Five Pirate attackers netted multiple goals led by Treloar-Ballard with six scores in the win. Raquel Rodriguez netted three goals with Pina adding three as well. Mary Beth Schroder and Lauren Wiksell both picked up two goals apiece with Wiksell adding three assists. Miranda Campos starred in the goal for the Pirates picking up nine saves to keep the Jets' offense grounded.

Following script from their first game, the Pirates jumped out to an early advantage over El Camino, leading 8-0 after one quarter and extending the lead to 10-0 by the half.

Five Pirates netted goals in the blowout victory. Maeve Flynn picked up four goals and two steals for the Pirates while Treloard-Ballard adding a single goal to go with three steals. Wiksell contributed on both sides of the pool with four assists and two steals. Brittany Camp added two goals on two shots and Pina added two more goals to her day. Rounding out the scoring, Danielle Pfeifer added one goal. Campos produced her second superb effort of the day with nine saves.  

The pair of wins pushed the Pirates to a 3-1 record in the tournament. VC scored 49 goals in the four games on the weekend.

On Wednesday Oct. 14 the Pirates will travel to Los Angeles Valley College for a 3:30 pm Western State Conference Game.
