Treloar-Ballard Leads VC to Two Big Wins in San Diego

VC utility player Paige Treloar-Ballard was unstoppable Saturday, leading Ventura to a pair of big wins at the San Diego Tournament at Miramar College.  The freshman from Foothill High School scored 11 goals with nine steals, five drawn exclusions and an assist in the Pirates' 9-6 win over Cerritos and come-from-behind 10-9 victory over Sierra.  Goalie Miranda Campos recorded 16 saves in the two games for Ventura (9-6, 2-1), as well.

Ventura 9, Cerritos 6
VC began the day with a solid victory over the Falcons.  Trailing 2-0 after the first quarter, VC dominated the second period, outscoring Cerritos 6-1 to take a 6-3 lead at halftime.  Treloar-Ballard had five goals, three exclusions and five steals in the game while Brittany Camp scored twice with a drawn exclusion and a steal.  Raquel Rodriguez had a goal with three assists and Danielle Pfeifer found the back of the net once.  Elizabeth Seacord picked off four steals with an assist and an exclusion and Reginae Maturino handed out three assists.  Campos turned back five Falcon shots in goal.

Ventura 10, Sierra 9
The Pirates were down 9-7 with 6:46 remaining in the game, and scored twice in the final 1:11 to take the victory over the Wolverines.  Maturino netted the equalizing goal with 1:11 on the clock and Treloar-Ballard netted the game winner with 51 seconds remaining.  Treloar-Ballard finished with six goals, four steals, two exclusions and an assist and Rodriguez had a goal, an assist, two drawn exclusions and one steal.  Seacord scored once with two steals and Anjali Paramanandam scored once with an assist and a steal.  Campos was nails in the cage with 11 stops.

VC begins a five-game homestand on Wednesday Oct. 7, hosting Santa Monica at 2:15pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center.  The Pirates will then host the Ventura Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10.
