Women's Water Polo 1-1 at Miramar Tournament

The Pirates' women's water polo team went 1-1 in a pair of games to begin the San Diego Tournament at Miramar College Friday.  VC (7-6, 2-1) fell to Palomar 14-8 in the opener before defeating East Los Angeles 15-3 in the second match of the day. Paige Treloar-Ballard  scored five goals in the two games with two assists and three steals and Brittany Camp had three goals, an assist and two steals.

The Pirates led 4-2 after the first quarter behind three goals from Treloar-Ballard and another score by Maeve Flynn, but could not hold off the Comets, falling 14-8.  Treloar-Ballard finished with four scores and a steal and Flynn had a goal, an assist and two steals.  Reginae Maturino found the back of the net once with a pair of assists and a steal while Camp had a goal and a steal.  Cheyanne Irigoyen scored the Pirates' other goal and Danielle Pfeifer finished with three assists and a steal. Miranda Campos had six saves in goal and Anjali Paramanandam turned back five shots in the cage.

Ventura came back in the nightcap to easily defeat the Huskies, 15-3.  VC held a commanding 9-0 advantage at intermission.  Irigoyen, Camp, Paramanandam, Raquel Rodriguez and Lauren Wiksell all scored two goals for Ventura in the victory.  Flynn added five steals defensively and Pfeifer had a solid all-around game with a goal, two assists, two steals and two drawn exclusions.  Elizabeth Seacord recorded a score, two assists, two exclusions and three steals. Campos recorded three saves.

The Pirates will complete the tournament in San Diego on Saturday Oct. 3 before hosting Santa Monica on Wednesday Oct. 7.  The Pirates will also host the annual Ventura Tournament on Friday and Saturday Oct. 9 and 10 at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
