Women's Polo Splits Opening Day of Chaffey Tournament

The Pirates' women's water polo team defeated the host Chaffey Panthers before falling to Fresno City College on Day one of the Chaffey Tournament in Rancho Cucamonga Friday.  VC (4-3) defeated the Panthers 11-3 in the opener before falling to the Rams 12-9.  Paige Treloar-Ballard had seven goals in the two games while Lauren Wiksell scored six times on the day.

Ventura 11, Chaffey 3
VC won their opening match against the host team 11-3.  The Pirates turned a 3-3 tie at the end of one period into a 7-3 halftime advantage.  Four more Ventura goals in the second half set the final margin of victory.

Treloar-Ballard scored five goals with four drawn ejections and a steal.  Wiksell netted four goals with two steals and Elizabeth Seacord scored twice for the Pirates.  Miranda Campos had seven saves in goal.

Ventura 9, Fresno 12
The contest was close early, with the Pirates holding a slim 6-4 lead at halftime.  VC maintained the two goal margin midway through the third period before the Rams stormed back. Fresno scored the final five goals of the match to take down Ventura.

Treloar-Ballard had a pair of scores with three drawn exclusions and Wiksell also scored twice with one drawn exclusion.  Seacord also netted a pair of goals and grabbed five steals.  Raquel RodriguezCheyanne Irigoyen and Danielle Pfeifer netted single scores for Ventura. Campos turned in six saves for VC in the game.

The Pirates wrap up play at Chaffey on Saturday Sept. 19 with games against Riverside and East Los Angeles.  They host Allan Hancock College on Wednesday Sept. 23.
