Pirate Polo Closes Regular Season on Win Streak

Sweeping two matches at the Pasadena Mini Tournament Friday, the Pirates' women's water polo team heads into next week's Western State Conference on a three-match winning streak.  VC (13-12, 4-2) defeated host Pasadena 15-6 in the opener before besting East Los Angeles 13-4 in the second match of the day.

VC used a strong second quarter to break the match wide open, outscoring the Lancers 5-1 in the period to take an 8-2 lead into intermisison.  Christina Tellez led the way with five goals, two assists, two steals and a pair of drawn ejections.  Anjali Paramanandam scored twice with three assists and a steal while Cecily Loya had two scores with two assists and two steals.  Melissa Robles also netted a pair of gaols with one assist and two steals.  Brittany Remo, Raquel Rodriguez, Jessica Gean and Brittany McWaid also found the back of the net in the victory. Miranda Campos had 13 saves on the day in goal.

The Pirates turned a 5-3 deficit at halftime into a 12-6 lead after three quarters, scoring nine goals in the period.  Tellez was strong once again with another five goals to go along with one assist and five steals.  Loya handed out four assists while grabbing eight steals defensively.  Danielle Pfeifer, McWaid and Robles all scored twice in the match. Campos turned back seven shots by the Huskies in the cage.

Ventura heads to next week's WSC tournament as the No. 3 seed at Citrus College.  They will open play Thursday Nov. 6 at 9:00 am against No. 6 Pierce College, with a possible semifinal match-up against No. 2 Santa Barbara looming at 2:15 pm Thursday.  The conference championship match will be Saturday Nov. 8 at 1:00 pm in Glendora.
