WPolo Drops First-Ever Meeting With Santa Barbara

In their first-ever meeting in the pool, the Pirates' women's water polo was unable to take advantage of scoring opportunities in their 8-5 loss to Santa Barbara City College Tuesday at the Ventura Aquatic Center.  Christina Tellez had a pair of goals, an assist, and four steals to lead VC (10-8, 3-2).

Ventura found itself on the short end of a 4-3 score after one quarter of play, and trailed 6-4 at halftime.  Reginae Maturino scored two minutes into the second half to pull VC to withn a single goal, but they could get no closer.  

The story of the day was missed opportunities as Ventura was 0-5 in six-on-five opportunities while the Vaqueros converted four of six advantage situations.

Cheyanne Irigoyen had a score with two assists and a steal and Raquel Rodriguez scored a goal with an assist. Defensively she drew one ejection and pulled in a steal.  Maturino had two steals to go with her third-quarter goal.  Cecily loya grabbed four steals on the defensive end of the pool.

The Pirates return to the pool at the Battle at the Beach Tournament in Long Beach and Cypress Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25.  They open with tow matches at Long Beach Friday against Riverside at 1:30 pm and against Mt. San Antonio at 5:50 pm.
