Pirates Close Ventura Tournament at 3-1

With a split in their final two matches, the Pirates' women's water polo team finished the Ventura Tournament with a 3-1 record on Saturday at the Ventura Aquatic Center.  VC (10-6, 3-0) easily defeated Santa Monica 19-3 before falling in the finale to Cypress, 10-8.

The Pirates overmatched Santa Monica fro the start, racing to a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Every Pirate scored and had an assist in the match as every player on the roster saw significant pool time in the victory. Christina Tellez, Brittany McWaid and Reginae Maturino each scored three goals to lead the Pirates while Cheyanne Irigoyen, Raquel Rodriguez and Cecily Loya all had three assists.  Melissa Robles scored twice and Andrea Velador and Danielle Pfeifer each handed out a pair of assists.  Brittany Remo had a goal, an assist, and a save and Anjali Paramanandam  scored once with an assist.  Goalie Miranda Campos had 17 saves in the match.

Ventura 8, Cypress 10
The Pirates dropped the tournament finale against Cypress 10-8. The Chargers led 4-2 at the end of one quarter and maintained that advantage thjroughout the match. McWaid had three goals, an assist and two steals to lead the way for VC.  Irigoyen had two goals and two steals while Loya scored once, handed out three assists and picked up four steals.  Jessica Gean had three drawn ejections.

Ventura resumes Western State Conference play Wednesday Oct. 15 in San Luis Obispo against Cuesta at 4:15pm before hosting Snata Barbara on Tuesday Oct. 21 at 2:15 at he Ventura Aquatic Center.
