Exploding for eight goals in the first quarter, the Ventura College women's water polo team never looked back in their 15-1 rout at Santa Monica College in Western State Conference play Wednesday. Reginae Maturino led the effort with four goals and five steals for the Pirates (6-5, 2-0).  Christina Tellez and Christina Robles each scored three times.

The Pirates jumped out to an 8-0 advantage after eight minutes of play and led 9-1 at intermission.  Ventura scored three goals in each of the final two periods to set the final score at 15-1 over the Corsairs.

Maturino had an assist to go with her four goals and five steals while Raquel Rodriguez handed out five assists and a score for VC.  Robles had her three scores with four steals and Tellez recorded two steals and two drawn ejectuions with her hat trick.  Brittany McWaid has a goal, two assists, and a pair of steals and Danielle Pfeifer scored once, assisted another goal and grabbed a pair of steals.  Cecily Loya was a rock defensively, pulling in six steals while assisting on a goal.  Anjali Paramanandam also found the back of the net for Ventura, as did Cheyanne Irigoyen.  

Ventura will host Los Angeles Valley on Wednesday Oct. 8 at 2:15 pm before hosting the annual Ventura Tournament Oct. 10-11 at the Ventura Aquatic Center.
