Women's Polo Finishes Chaffey Tournament 2-2

The Pirates' women's water polo team went 1-1 on Saturday to complete the Chaffey Tournament at an even 2-2 for the weekend.  VC defeated Cypress 7-4 in the first game Saturday before falling to San Diego Mesa 14-6 in the finale.  Reginae Maturino and Melissa Robles each scored three goals on the day to lead the Pirates (3-5).

VC jumped out to a first quarter lead and never relinquished it in their first match Saturday against the Chargers.  Cecily Loya led the effore with two scores, seven steals, and a pair of drawn ejections in the match.  Christina Tellez als netted two goals with a steal and Maturino had a goal, three steals, and thee ejections.  Robles and Cheyanne Irigoyen also scored goals for Ventura.  Miranda Campos had four saves in goal.

Ventura 6, San Diego Mesa 14
The Olympians had a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back in the Pirates' tournament finale.  Robles had two gaols with four steals while Maturino recorded a pair of scores with two steals.  Anjali Paramanandam and Danielle Pfeifer also scored goals.  Raquel Rodriguez had four steals, three assists, and two drawn ejections.

The Pirates will play Citrus College in their Western State Conference opener on Wednesday Sept. 24 at 2:15pm at the Ventura Aquatic Center before hosting the VC Alumnae on Saturday Sept. 27 at 11:00 am.
