Sophomore Cecily Loya scored a pair of goals in VC's Saddleback Tournament finale against Chaffey Saturday.

Despite a split in their first two games, the VC women's water polo team was placed in Saturday's championship bracket at the Saddleback Tournament. The result was a pair of defeats for the Pirates (1-3), 11-0 to top-seeded Fullerton and 11-4 in a rematch of Friday's loss against Chaffey.

Ventura 0, Fullerton 11
The Pirates had a tough go of it against the Hornets, one of the state's top teams.  Miranda Campos turned back 10 Fullerton shots while Brittany Remo had a pair of saves.

Ventura 4, Chaffey 11
In the tournament finale, the Pirates faced a rarity in water polo tournaments, a rematch from the day before.  Unfortunately for VC the result was the same against the Panthers.  Cecily Loya had a pair of gaols and a steal in the loss while Danielle Pfeifer scored once and recorded one steal. Reginae Maturino had one goal, two assists and drew an ejection and  Raquel Rodriguez drew four ejections.  Campos had seven saves in goal, including a 5m save.

Ventura could see the Panthers for a third time next week as they travel to Rancho Cucamonga for the Chaffey Tournament Sept. 19 and 20.  The Pirates will open their home schedule Wednesday Sept. 24 against Citrus at 2:15 pm.
