Women's Polo Splits First Day of Opening Tournament

The Ventura College women's water polo team split a pair of matches at the Saddleback Tournament in Mission Viejo to open the 2014 season on Friday.  The Pirates defeated East Los Angeles 12-3 in the opener before falling to Chaffey 10-3 in the nightcap.  Christina Tellez and Melissa Robles each scored four goals on the day for VC (1-1) while Miranda Campos had 19 saves in goal.

Campos had 10 saves, including a pair of penalty saves and three steals in allowing just three goals to the Huskies.  Tellez had four goals and four steals while Robles registered four goals with one steal.  Cheyanne Irigoyen had a goal, three steals and apair of assists while Brittany Remo, Cecily Loya and Reginae Maturino all scored goals in the win.  Danielle Pfeifer contributed four assists to the Pirate victory.

Campos had nine saves and a pair of steals while Loya had a goal and four steals.  Raquel Rodriguez had a score and two steals and Maturino scored Ventura's other goal.  Pfeifer drew a 5m penalty and an ejection in the contest.

The Pirates will battle Fullerton at 11:30 am on Saturday Sept. 13 and play at 3:00 or 4:10 to complete the tournament at Saddleback College.
