Women's Polo Defeats Corsairs

WOMEN'S WATER POLO:  Behind a strong first quarter, the Pirates' women's water polo team posted a 7-5 victory over Santa Monica Tuesday afternoon at the Ventura Aquatic Center. Playing her final home match for VC (10-8-1, 3-1), sophomore Jerilyn Hollis scored three goals while drawing one ejection and two 5m shots with a pair of steals on defense. Ashley Runyon, Brittany McWaid, Lauren McCaslin, and Sarah Shah also netted scores for Ventura. Vanessa Vega recorded nine saves in goal.

The Pirates raced out to a 4-0 lead at the end of one quarter, and maintained that score at halftime. VC extended their lead to 6-1 at the end of three quarters before the Corsairs rallied with four goals in the final eight minutes.

McCaslin also handed out an assist, drew two ejections, and two 5m shots and grabbed a steal. Meanwhile McWaid handed out a pair of assists and with three steals while Runyon drew a pair of ejections and had four steals.

VC will travel to the Battle at the Beach hosted by Long Beach City College on Friday and Saturday Oct. 25 and 26. VC will head to LA Valley on Wednesday Oct. 30 for their final regular-season Western State Conference contest.
