VC Women Place Second

The Pirates' women's water polo team placed second at the Chaffey Tournament.  After two wins on Friday, they defeated East LA on Saturday before falling to Riverside.

WOMEN'S WATER POLO:  With a strong early season performance, the Pirates' women's water polo team brought home second place from the Chaffey Tournament Saturday, routing East Los Angeles 17-3 before falling to Riverside 15-5. Ashley Runyon netted seven goals in the two matches while Lauren McCaslin scored four times. Molly Watkins had eight saves against undefeated Riverside, and Christina Tellez grabbed five steals against East LA for the Pirates (4-4).

Ventura 17, East Los Angeles 3
Ventura routed the Huskies to move into a finals showdown against Riverside. Runyon had five goals and four assists and McCaslin scored three times. Cecily Loya, Scarlett Lund-Sidi and Jessica Gean all netted a pair of scores while Jessica Peace, Tellez, Jerilyn Hollis all scored one time each for VC. Tellez also recorded five steals.

Ventura 5, Riverside 15
The Pirates' weekend run ended against the undefeated Riverside Tigers. Watkins had eight saves and also scored a goal for VC in the match while Runyon scored twice with two steals. McCaslin and Hollis also had one goal each and Loya grabbed three steals.

The Pirates will be at home twice in the coming week as they host Cuesta in the Western State COnference opener Wednesday Sept. 24 at 2:15pm. They will then play the VC Alumni on Saturday Sept. 28 at 10:00 am. All Pirate home matches are at the Ventura Aquatic Center on Kimball Road.
