VC Freshman Shai Daniels was named first team All-Western State Conference leading four Pirates who received All-WSC honors as voted upon by the conference coaches. The Buena High School product was joined by second-team All-WSC honoree Talia Behrens and honorable mention award winners Josephine Rausch and Daphne Raymond.
The VC volleyball team gave it everything they had Tuesday night, ultimately falling short in the second round of the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs. The No. 15-seeded Pirates captured the first set from No. 2 San Diego Mesa before falling 18-25 ,25-12, 25-19, 25-19. Josephine Rausch led the effort for Ventura (16-10) with a double-double of 11 kills and 14 digs while Shai Daniels recorded eight winners with 12 digs and three service aces. Bryce Swain led the defense with 18 digs.
The Ventrua College volleyball team posted a hard fought sweep over Mt. San Jacinto in the first round of the 3C2A Southern California Regional Playoffs at the Athletic Event Center Saturday. The Pirates prevailed 26-24, 25-18, 26-24 over the Eagles as Shai Daniels continued her strong season with a double-double of 10 kills and 18 digs. She also served a team-best three aces in the win. Talia Behrens and Daphne Raymond each recorded eight kills in the balanced attack.
The VC volleyball team is back in the playoffs for 2024 and will host an opening round match on Saturday Nov. 23. The No. 15-seeded Pirates (15-9) will take on No. 18 Mt. San Jacinto (17-9) at 6:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center with the winner advancing to the second round at No. 2 San Diego Mesa on Tuesday Nov. 26. This is the fourth straight playoff appearance for Ventura and they have made the post-season in six of the past seven, and eight of the past 10 years.
The VC women's volleyball team was not messing around Saturday as they dominated visiting Glendale 25-12, 25-9, 25-12 in the Western State Conference Crossover to close the regular season. The Pirates were clicking on all cylinders as they hit a combined .494 at the net, led by Talia Behrens, Shai Daniels, Callie Cahill and Josephine Rausch, all with eight kills each. Daniels led the defense with 15 digs and also had four services aces in the runaway win.
The VC volleyball team swept past Los Angeles PIerce 25-15, 25-12, 25-14 Friday in the penultimate match of the regular season and the final Western State Conference North Division contest. Makena Schaumloeffel led the balanced Pirate attack with six kills, seven digs and five service aces. Giannamay Tayco also recorded seven digs defensively and Natalie Bair handed out 15 assists.
The VC women's volleyball team began the final week of the regular season Tuesday with a convincing four-set victory over visiting Santa Barbara. In the match rescheduled from Nov. 6, the Pirates captured the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-20 before falling in the third, 22-25. Ventura (13-9, 7-4) clinched the win taking the fourth set, 25-21. Shai Daniels' double-double of 15 kills and 21 digs led the way for the Pirates and Daphne Raymond recorded 10 winners at the net. Josephine Rausch narrowly missed a double-double with 27 digs and nine kills.
After an unexpected week away from games, the Pirates' volleyball team took a while to get going Friday at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria. Ventura dropped the first two sets to the Bulldogs, 25-18 and 25-15 before turning things around in the reverse sweep trumph, 25-15, 25-14, 15-12. Shae Daniels had a stellar night with 21 kills, hitting .348, and 12 digs and Josephine rausch turned in 17 winners with 14 digs to lead Ventura (12-9, 6-4). Nataloe Bair recorded 33 assists in the marathon victory.
The VC volleyball team had a difficult time of things Friday, dropping a three-set decision at Los Angeles Mission College 25-21, 25-12, 25-17. The Pirates struggled offensively at the net as they were limited to 20 kills as a team, led by Shai Daniels with five and Daphne Raymond and Talia Behrens, each with three. Raymond also recorded five blocks in the match and Behrend had four. Daniels and Bryce Swain each had right digs and Natalie Bair handed out wight assists.
The VC volleyball team started out well, but could not sustain the momentum at Moorpark, falling in four sets to the Raiders, 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19. The VC volleyball team had a relatively easy time with visiting Cuesta, sweeping past the Cougars 25-16, 25-13, 25-18 Friday evening. Shai Daniels had 11 kills and Josephine Rausch hit nine winners to lead the effort for VC (11-7, 5-2). Liz Schalde handed out 16 assists and Natalie Bair dropped 15 dimes in the triumph, helping the Pirates hit .370 as a team in the match.
The Pirates' volleyball team swept past Los Angeles Pierce College 25-12, 25-21, 25-22 Wednesday evening in Woodland Hills. Talia Behrens le dthe effort with seven kills with a .636 hitting percentage and Makena Schaumloeffel had three kills, five aces and six digs. Daphne Raymond totaled five winners at the net while Liz Schalde and Natalie Bair handed out 11 and 10 assists, respectively.
The VC volleyball team defeated Allan Hancock in four sets, 25-14, 25-14, 26-28, 25-19, Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center. Shai Daniels produced a double-double of 18 kills and 14 digs while hitting at a .567 clip. Josephine Rausch added 14 winners and eight digs. Natalie Bair and Liz Schalde each had 20 assists and Talia Behrens contributed seven kills and five blocks, one solo.
The Pirate volleyball team was unable to carry over the momentum of Wednesday's victory against Santa Barbara Friday, falling to the Vaqueros 25-18, 25-22, 26-24 at the SBCC Sports Pavilion. Josephine Rausch led the effort for the Pirates with 12 kills on the night, hitting at a .455 clip, while Callie Cahill recorded nine winners at the net. Skylar Rutherford had 15 assists and Bryce Swain totaled eight digs for Ventura (8-7, 2-2).
The Pirate volleyball team had a resiliant reverse sweep victory over previouly undefeated Los Angeles Mission College Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center. Ventura dropped the first two sets, 25-18, 25-20 before coming back to take the next three 25-20, 25-22, 15-3 for the upset victory. taylor Lane led an outstanding defensive effort at the net by VC with nine block assists and Daphne Raymond added seven. Makena Schaumloeffel totaled 19 digs while Josephine Raosch and Talia Behrens each recorded 13 kills offensively.
The VC volleyball team dropped its Western State Conference match against Moorpark Friday at the Athletic Event Center, 25-22, 2517, 25-15. Makena Schaumloeffel helped lead the Pirate attack with six kills and six digs while Shai Daniels hit four winners with a team-high 11 digs. Callie Cahill also hit six kills for VC (7-6 (1-1)).
The Pirate volleyball team outlasted Cuesta COllege Wednesday, defeating the Cougars in five sets, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 15-9, in San Luis Obispo. Talia Behrens led the effort with 10 kills, hitting a .588 percentage, and four service aces in the triumph. Callie Cahill recorded 13 winners and Natalie Bair handed out 22 assists. Shai Daniels had nine winners with 22 digs and Bryce Swain tallied 16 digs defensively.
The VC volleyball team continued to find its groove Friday night with a 27-25, 17-25, 25-19, 26-24 triumph over state No. 21 College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. Five different Pirates totaled six or more kills in the match with Callie Cahill leading the way with 12 winners. Makena Schaumloeffel hit five aces with 10 digs and six kills and Shai Daniels totaled nine winners with 13 digs.Daphne Raymond and Talia Behrens each had eight kills in the victory for Ventura (6-5).
The VC volleyball team had a solid outing on Wednesday, defeating Bakersfield in four sets, 25-12, 25-20, 21-25, 25-13. Makena Schaumloeffel had an excellent game with a double-double of 12 kills and 14 digs. She achieved a .400 hitting percentage and also recorded three aces to lead the Pirates (5-5). Skylar Rutherford also posted a double-double with 25 assists and 12 digs while Callie Cahill had 10 winners at the net.
Just 48 hours after playing Saddleback to a 5-set win, the Pirate volleyball team extended Santa Monica to five sets Friday, dropping a heartbreaker to the Corsairs 25-17, 25-22, 33-35, 25-27, 15-12. Daphne Raymond had 13 kills with a .321 hitting percentage while Callie Cahill recorded 10 winners while hitting .333. Shai Daniels barely missed a double-double with nine kills and 18 digs and Talia Behrens recorded 12 winners. Taylor Lane had five blocks at the net and Natalie Bair handed out 24 assists in the balanced team effort.
The VC volleyball team extended their stay in South Orange County as long as possible Wednesday night, defeating Saddleback in an epic five-set match, 15-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13 in Mission Viejo. Shai Daniels had a double-double with 14 kills, 14 digs and six service aces to lead the way while Callie Cahill recorded 10 winners. Skylar Rutherford handed out 18 assists with 12 digs for VC (4-4) and Makenna Schaumloeffel picked up 25 digs defensively. Taylor Lane had eight blocks at the net for the Pirates.
The VC volleyball team overmatched visiting Citrus College, sweeping past the Owls 25-15, 25-19, 29-27 at the Athletic Event Center Friday evening. Callie Cahill and Daphne Raymond led with eight and seven kills, respectively while Makena Schaumloeffel was nails on the serve with five aces and scoring on 10 of 15 attempts in the match.
The VC volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at the Pasadena Quad, dropping a 25-15, 29-27, 14-25, 25-18 decision to San Bernardino Valley before defeating Mt. San Jacinto, 25-15, 25-14, 25-17. With the victory in the nightcap, Ventura head coach Brad Lyans became the program's winningest coach with his 147 career victory in his 11th season at the helm of the Pirates.

In an early Top-10 match-up, the young Pirate volleyball team, ranked No. 8 in the state, fell to No. 9 Pasadena 25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17 Wednesday at the Athletic Event Center. Josephine Rausch led the Pirates with eight kills, 17 digs and four service aces. She served nine straight winners at one point during the second set. Talia Behrens was also solid at the net with 11 kills with a .375 hitting percentage with four blocks. Skylar Rutherford contributed 17 assists and 11 digs to the Pirate effort.
The Pirate volleyball team swept past Imperial Valley Friday evening at the Athletic Event Center to begin their 2024 campaign. Ventura took down the Warriors 25-11 in the opening set before posting 25-17 and 25-16 wins in the second two sets, respectively, to close out the 3-0 victory. Shai Daniels led VC with nine kills and eight digs while Talia Behrens recorded six kills and four blocks at the net. Skylar Rutherford and Natalie Bair each handed out 13 assists.
