Pirates Sweep WSC Post-Season Awards

The VC volleyball team swept the Western State Conference North Division post-season awards after sharing the conference title, the team's third straight crown and fourth in the past five years. Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Murdoch was named he WSC North Player of the Year while sophomore Autumn Rojelio earned the Libero of the Year Award. VC head coach Brad Lyans was named the WSC North Coach of the Year. Sophomore Kylie Ibbotson and freshman Talia Behrens also earned first team All-WSC recognition.

Murdoch, a first team All-WSC and first team All-American as a freshman, was even better in her sophomore season in earning the Palyer of the Year Award.  The Thousand Oaks High School product closed the conference slate with a .323 hitting percentage after registering 155 kills through nine matches. Murdoch also averaged 5.17 kills per set and recorded 12 blocks. She also contributed 75 digs defensively and had 10 service aces in nine WSC matches.

Rojelio, the heart and soul of the Pirates' team, picked up the Libero of the Year honor with an average of 5.56 digs per set through 10 WSC North contests. The Buena High School graduate totaled 189 digs and 12 aces against league opposition.

Ibbotson (Moorpark HS) produced a .266 hitting percentage playing opposite and averaged 2.42 kills per set with a total of 80 kills while middle blocker Behrens (St. Bonaventure HS) hit 2.06 winners per set with 64 total kills and a .301 hitting percentage.

Sophomore middle Brianna Morrison (Oxnard HS) and first year setter Ashley Johnson (Nordhoff HS) were named second team All-WSC while freshman Makena Schaumloeffel () and sophomre Alba Romanos Gracia eaned honorable mention honors from their outside hitter positions.

Lyans eaned his sixth WSC Coach of the Year honor ater leading the Pirates to the league title for the third year in a row and the fourth in the past five seasons.

The Pirates ended the year with a 21-4 record, 8-2 in WSC play. They advanced to the 3C2A State Elite Eight for the first time since the 2000 season.
